Needs Analysis
SEED’s project implementation began with a comprehensive needs analysis, a crucial activity designed to assess educational and capacity-building needs from multiple education, enterprise and community stakeholder perspectives, ensuring no stakeholders are excluded and addressing genuine needs of participants in their communities without imposing a Western-centric perspective.
Through a rigorous multi-methods approach, combining surveys and focus group discussions conducted by the African university partners, the needs analysis aims to fully capture and comprehend the needs, challenges, and priorities expressed directly by local communities and stakeholders.
This methodological rigor ensures that subsequent project activities are contextually relevant, evidence-based, and effectively targeted.
Design and Development of micro credentials
By grounding its interventions in a detailed needs analysis and microcredential readiness training, the SEED project aspires to develop innovative educational practices, participative inclusion and sustainable development models.
A key tool for achieving these objectives will be the implementation of micro-credentials, which the European Commission defines as «certify the learning outcomes of short-term learning experiences, for example, a short course or training» (European Commission, https://education.ec.europa.eu/education-levels/higher-education/micro-credentials).
Additionally, the project embraces the concept of lifelong learning, described by the European Commission as «all learning activities undertaken throughout life with the aim of improving knowledge, skills and competences» (European Commission, https://education.ec.europa.eu/education-levels/adult-learning/about-adult-learning).
By integrating micro-credentials within a lifelong learning framework, the SEED project aims to significantly contribute to social transformation, promoting resilience, sustainability and inclusive economic opportunities in Malawi and Zambia.
